'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood' gets a fun, funky makeover

If you ever watched "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" — and who hasn't as the classic children's TV series aired for over three decades — this will be a huge dose of nostalgia for you.

PBS Digital Studios partnered with Symphony of Science's John D. Boswell to create "Garden of Your Mind," which is an auto-tuned mash-up video of the late iconic show host Fred Rogers slow-jamming about playing make believe, being curious, and growing ideas.

"Do you ever imagine things?" Rogers "sings" during the song. "Did you ever grow anything in the garden of your mind?"

The moving viral video, which reconnects viewers with the beloved TV iconic who taught kids how to tie their shoes and use their imagination for play, launched June 7 and already has 648,000 views. The description talks about the inspiration behind it: "When we discovered video mash-up artist John D. Boswell, aka melodysheep, on YouTube, we immediately wanted to work together. Turns out that he is a huge 'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood' fan, and was thrilled at the chance to pay tribute to one of our heroes. Both PBS and the Fred Rogers Company hope you like John’s celebration of Fred Rogers’ message."

This is only the first in a series of videos from the network. Other PBS icons will get the remix treatment as well in the future.
