5 Jaw-Droppers From ‘The Flash’ Season 2 Premiere: Barry Goes Rogue, Ronnie’s Fate Revealed

Barry Allen may have saved Central City, but his troubles are more complicated than ever, as “The Flash” Season 2 premiere hinted towards introducing the multiverse to the CW superhero drama.

By the end of the sophomore drama’s first episode, titled “The Man Who Saved Central City,” one major character was dead, the season’s big villain had been named, and an iconic comic book character had shown up in town.

As the episode revealed, Barry (Grant Gustin) was carrying a certain amount of guilt over the events of the Season 1 finale. As the group scattered, Barry decided to do the superhero thing on his own with Star Labs having gone dark in the aftermath.

Below are five of the biggest revelations revealed during the Season 2 premiere of “The Flash.”

1. The Men Who Saved Central City
While Barry is very obviously wracked with guilt over not being the true hero who saved the day in the Season 1 finale, the presumption had always been that Eddie (Rick Cosnett) was on his mind. But the premiere episode revealed another hero who sacrificed his life to save the City on the day of the singularity.

Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell), as it turned out, also died, having gone into the singularity to try to close the portal between two worlds. No one could have predicted how things would have turned out, and it turned out tragically for Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and her new husband. The other half of Firestorm, Martin Stein (Victor Garbor), returned, and Ronnie was obliterated.

2. “My Name Is Jay Garrick”
His appearance has been teased endlessly, and he only shows up at the very end of the episode – out of costume – but the arrival of the first man to ever be called “The Flash” in the DC comic books should still have huge ramifications for Barry and the gang. “Your world is in danger,” he says, in what is sure to be the understatement of the season.

3. Harrison Wells’ final act
In a taped message that shocked the characters onscreen as much as viewers offscreen, Wells confessed to the murder of Barry’s mother. Thus Barry’s biggest quest throughout the series has apparently come to a close, and his father, wrongly convicted of killing his wife, is freed from prison. But just as it appears he’s getting his most important father figure back, the newly freed Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp) quickly informs his son that he is leaving town, believing Barry to be headed on a journey that doesn’t allow a role for him.

4. Cisco’s future as a superhero
Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) is the alter ego of DC comic book superhero Vibe, and the premiere gave another strong hint that the TV version of him is fast heading approaching his destiny as well, as he was thrown unexpectedly into an alternate timeline during the Flash Day rally.

5. Zoom is coming
Zoom has been reported to be Season 2’s big bad villain, and while the evil superspeedster did not show his face in Central City in the premiere, the defeated villain of the week, Atom Smasher (Adam Copeland), revealed a surprising connection to The Flash’s future nemesis. “[Zoom] promised he would take me home,” he said, right before being defeated.
