ABC to Air ‘The Story of Frozen’ Behind-the-Scenes Special

ABC has announced a “Frozen” behind-the-scenes special, titled “The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic,” scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Sept. 2.

According to ABC, the one-hour special will document the origins and evolution of “Frozen,” including a look inside Walt Disney Animation Studios and interviews with the creative team behind the blockbuster animated film. Fans will hear from Kristen Bell (the voice of Anna) and Idina Menzel (who voices Elsa) as well as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer and “Frozen” executive producer John Lasseter, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producer Peter Del Vecho, and songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The program will also feature insights and commentary from art director Mike Giaimo and members of the art direction, animation and effects teams, and show viewers the Norwegian villages and landscapes that inspired the look of fictional Arendelle.

The special also promises to reveal “exciting announcements about the next chapter of ‘Frozen,'” and a preview of the film’s characters — Anna, Elsa and Kristoff — in their upcoming appearance on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time.” The show will end with an exclusive sneak peek at Disney’s next animated film, comedy-adventure “Big Hero 6,” ahead of its Nov. 7 release.

“The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic” is produced by Lincoln Square Productions. Jeanmarie Condon is senior executive producer and Rudy Bednar serves as director.
