Amazon Mulls Launch of Standalone TV Service

Amazon is said to be considering creating its own live online TV service.

The tech and commerce giant has already reached out to CBS and NBCUniversal about including their channels, according to a new report in Bloomberg.

Talks are preliminary, though the potential service would put Amazon in direct competition with providers like AT&T and Comcast.

An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.

It’s unclear how a live TV service would fit with the other plans the tech giant already has in store.

The company also recently got into the original programming game, launching its first show, “Alpha House,” in 2013. Upcoming original programming include “Man in the High Castle,” Bryan Cranston‘s “Sneaky Pete” and an untitled series from Woody Allen, the first TV project from the legendary film director.
