AMC Developing ‘Terror’ Drama Produced By Scott Free, TV 360 & Alexandra Milchan

EXCLUSIVE: AMC has put in development The Terror, a drama series adaptation of the 2007 bestselling novel by Dan Simmons, which is being executive produced by Scott Free TV, Television 360 and feature producer Alexandra Milchan. Written by hot feature writer David Kajganich, The Terror is set in 1847 when the crew of a Royal Naval expedition to find the Arctic’s treacherous Northwest Passage discovers instead a monstrous predator – a cunning and vicious Gothic horror that stalks the ships in a desperate game of survival, the consequences of which could endanger the region and its native people forever. Kajganich executive produces with Scott Free’s David Zucker and Ridley Scott, TV 360′s Scott Lambert and Meghan Lyvers, Milchan and Simmons. The project keeps AMC in the genre space where it has enjoyed a tremendous success with The Walking Dead.

On the feature side Kajganich is writing another book adaptation, The Stand, based on Stephen King’s novel, for Warner Brothers, Mosaic and Roy Lee. He wrote True Story for New Regency and Plan B, which is shooting next month starring James Franco and Jonah Hill; and A Bigger Splash, an adaptation of the French film La Piscine, which is shooting later this year with Scott Free producing and Luca Guadagnino directing. Kajganich is repped by UTA and Madhouse. Milchan serves as EVP of production for New Regency, which she rejoined in 2011. As an independent producer, her credits include Paranoia and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Television 360, the TV arm of Management 360, is behind two series, HBO’s Game Of Thrones and Bravo’s It’s A Brad, Brad World. Under Lyvers, who runs TV 360, the unit has ramped up TV development, selling five scripts to the broadcast networks this season, one of which, NBC drama I Am Victor, was picked up to pilot. On the cable side, TV 360 has The Oath by Mark Heyman in development at Showtime. Scott Free has a growing TV slate. In addition to the CBS series The Good Wife, the company is producing the Showtime pilot Vatican, directed by Ridley Scott; Discovery Channel’s first scripted miniseries Klondike, starring Chris Cooper; Nat Geo’s upcoming Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy films; non-fiction series Crimes Of The Century, which was recently acquired by CNN; limited series World Without End for Reelz, a followup to Pillars Of The Earth; and recent A&E miniseries Coma. Simmons’ new novel, The Abominable, will be published by Little, Brown in the fall 2013.
