Amy Schumer's 12 Angry Men Parody Is the Best Sketch of the Year
The conversation surrounding the double standards that women - particularly women in Hollywood - face has been covered so exhaustively that the arguments against it have become normalized. And yet not much has changed over the years.
Women are still picked apart, subjected to the male gaze and valued largely based on whether or not they inspire (socially acceptable) erections. It's a topic that's been broached by Amy Schumer many times before, most memorably in the "Would You Bang Her?" sketch last season and more recently in "Last F--kable Day." But Tuesday's Inside Amy Schumer delivered the comedian's most eviscerating takedown of patriarchal self-importance and beauty standards yet.

In an ambitious, episode-long parody of 12 Angry Men, Schumer once again offers herself and her body up as the vehicle for debate. In the sketch, the jurors - including Jeff Goldblum,Vincent Kartheiser, Paul Giamatti and John Hawkes - are tasked with deliberating whether or not Schumer is "hot enough to be on TV" and can give the jurors "a reasonable chub."
"I'm more proud of it than anything I've ever done," Schumer told HitFix. "The debates that I've overheard with both men and women is that there is a rage for a woman taking her clothes off on TV. There is this strange anger towards women who are comfortable with themselves, who some people feel like they shouldn't be. The message that's sent to us through the media and Hollywood and magazines is, 'If you're not one of the most beautiful women in the world, you should hide yourself.' That's a message that's being driven through so many different avenues that both men and women start to listen and think, 'She has no right to do this.'"
