Designing Women alum Annie Potts has been cast as the mother of Kirk's character, top veterinarian Dr. George Coleman on Animal Practice, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

As first reported by TVLine.com, Virginia is described as a snobbish, racist and self-absorbed mom, though she actually has a heart underneath that hardened veneer.
Potts, who recently starred on ABC's GCB, will appear during the first season of the freshman comedy, which sneak-previewed its first episode during the London Olympics. The series makes its regular timeslot debut on Wednesday at 8/7c on NBC.
