Arlene Martel, T'Pring on Star Trek, Dies at 78

Actress Arlene Martel, who guest-starred on Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, died Tuesday of complications from a heart attack in Santa Monica, California, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 78.

Born Arline Sax in The Bronx, New York, Martel attended the High School for the Performing Arts and starred on Broadway in the late 1950s before transitioning into screen acting.

Often credited as Arline Sax, Arlene Sax or Tasha Martel, she also played Tiger on Hogan's Heroes, the witch Malvina on Bewitched and had guest spots on The Twilight Zone. Her other credits include guest-starring roles onThe Untouchables, The Young and the Restless, Battlestar Galactica and Brothers & Sisters.

She also dated actor James Dean for years, and was married three times, including once to Young and the Restless star Jerry Douglas.

Martel appeared as T'Pring in the 1967 Star Trek episode "Amok Time" as the prospective bride of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy). "Saying goodbye to T'Pring, Arlene Martel. A lovely talent," Nimoy tweeted Tuesday.

Martel is survived by two sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
