‘Arrow’ Post-Mortem: 3 Revelations and 3 Questions Heading Into the Season 3 Finale

‘Arrow’ Post-Mortem: 3 Revelations and 3 Questions Heading Into the Season 3 Finale

The next to last episode of The CW’s “Arrow” pulled no punches and had no shortage of crazy twists and revelations.

From the beginning, it’s revealed that, as many fans suspected, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) had not undergone a severe personality transplant as a result of Ra’s Al Ghul’s (Matt Nable) manipulations. Instead, he had been playing the Head of the Demon.

Rejoice, Team Arrow and Starling City is saved! But not so fast. As the episode went on, it became clear that Diggle (David Ramsey), Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Laurel (Katie Cassidy), Ray (Brandon Routh) and Tatsu (Rila Fukushima) were not safe in his hands, even after the truth was revealed – by a scheming Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman).

Not only was the episode chock full of big, heartbreaking battle sequences (RIP Maseo), it was also punctuated with big discoveries that lead to some even bigger questions as the show heads into its season finale next week.

Below are three of the biggest revelatory moments during “This Is Your Sword,” and the three questions they bring up.

Thea = Speedy. Roy left his signature hood behind with his girl, telling her she looks better in red anyway. We already saw her suited up last week during a showdown with The League, but this might be our biggest indication yet that Thea Queen may just be the newest masked vigilante to roam around Starling City.

Question: Is Speedy the newest member of Team Arrow… or the only member?

Oliver is in his right mind. Can’t blame this one on League brainwashing. Shedding the visage of Al Sah-him early in the episode, most of the episode seems to hint that Oliver has a secret plan to turn on Ra’s and save his friends. Only he ends up doing the exact opposite. Felicity, Diggle, Laurel and Ray are locked inside a chamber as the bio-weapon is unleashed inside. What?!

Question: Does Oliver have another, even larger larger plan in the works and is there enough time left in the season to redeem his latest actions?

Palmer Industries changes hands. Felicity may have absent-mindedly signed her name to some legal document or other, but viewers should have noticed that the form was stamped across the top with a very prominent “Change of Ownership.” The change makes sense, especially since we know Routh’s Atom will soon have to make his exit as he gears up to headline The CW’s planned “Arrow”-“Flash” spinoff series featuring his character teaming up with other heroes and villains from the universe.

Question: Will Queen Consolidated finally make its triumphant return?

“Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
