‘Arrow’ Preview: 5 Things to Know About Season 3’s Penultimate Episode

There’s only one episode left before the Season 3 finale of The CW’s “Arrow,” and things are actually picking up and getting crazier rather than slowing down.

In the penultimate episode, titled “This Is Your Sword,” the action returns once again to Nanda Parbat, where the former Oliver Queen, now Al Sah-him (Stephen Amell) was just told he will be marrying Nyssa Al Ghul (Katrina Law) on the orders of her father Ra’s Al Ghul (Matt Nable).

That dramatic twist left last week’s episode on quite a cliffhanger, but the impending nuptials actually end up becoming the least of Team Arrow’s problems as they’re brought back face to face with their former leader and friend.

Below are five things to know before heading into “This Is Your Sword.”

The unholy union takes a back seat. While most of the anticipation has been centered on the shocking betrothal that closed out last week’s episode of “Arrow,” the wedding between Al Sah-Him and Nyssa Al Guhl plays second fiddle to the more dramatic events that unfold around the ceremony. However, needless to say, Nyssa is not accepting her fate lying down.

Roy and Thea get more than just closure. While showrunner Marc Guggenheim previously teased that he felt the show’s creators owed it to the audience to provide closure to the Roy/Thea relationship, the episode offers up much more than just a goodbye scene between Oliver’s little sister and the vigilante (formerly?) known as Arsenal.

Katana arrives. As was teased on Instagram by actress Rila Fukushima, the DC superhero known as Katana is finally coming to “Arrow.” And it doesn’t take long for the woman from Oliver’s past to to get into an epic sword fight worthy of the blade from which she takes her name when she arrives in her present form.

Team Arrow is still struggling. Not everyone is dealing so well with the events of last week, which saw Oliver embrace his new role as Al Sah-him and a full-blown villain. Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) still refuses to believe Oliver is actually gone, leading her teammates to exchange worried looks about the state of her mind, while Diggle (David Ramsey) is having an even harder time. Even when the team appear to get some good news, they know better than to buy into it right away — and for very good reason, because things are about to get worse before they get better (if they ever do).

Oliver’s villain days are not over. Oliver did some bad things in last week’s episode, most notably kidnapping Diggle’s wife Lyla, but they’re nothing compared to what he puts his former friends and allies through this week. The new Heir to the Demon would appear to be taking his job very seriously, and lines are crossed that seem to be impossible to come back from. Good thing there’s another episode left.

“Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
