Update: Ashton Kutcher's Popchip Commercial Controversy

Update: The online ad campaign for Popchips, which we discuss below, is being reworked after an outcry from viewers that it is racist. One of the characters Ashton Kutcher portrays in the online dating themed commercial for the snack company is a Bollywood movie producer named "Raj." Viewers were offended that Kutcher appeared in a brown makeup and used a heavy Indian accent for the role. While Kutcher himself has not commented, the CEO of Popchips issued a statement that said, in part, "Our team worked hard to create a light-hearted parody featuring a variety of characters that was meant to provide a few laughs. We did not intend to offend anyone. I take full responsibility and apologize to anyone we offended." However, while the company pulled the video featuring just "Raj" from their YouTube channel and Facebook page – and removed a picture Kutcher as that character from their Facebook cover photo -- the initial video which we posted below yesterday featuring all four of Kutcher's characters, including "Raj" -- remains on their YouTube channel as well as Kutcher's personal Facebook page.

Ashton Kutcher is taking his newly single status to a whole new level. Since Demi Moore filed for divorce last November, he’s been linked to screenwriter Lorene Scafaria and, most recently, his former "That '70s Show" costar Mila Kunis. Now, the actor is doing a commercial for a dating website. Well, sort of.

Kutcher, who is the brand ambassador for Popchips, is doing his first full-fledged ad campaign for the snack company and in it he promotes a fictional matchmaking site called worldwidelovers.com. The commercial spoof features the "Two and a Half Men" star playing four characters: Raj, a Bollywood producer; Nigel, a stoner; Darl, a Karl Lagerfeld lookalike who shares food with his dog; and Swordfish, a tattooed biker. Naturally, all of the men love Popchips.

Near the end of the minute-plus video, Ashton appears as himself — just another guy looking for love. "Your waiting room is a like a freak show,” he quips, referring to Raj, Nigel, Darl, and Swordfish. “Are we all in the same category?"

Of course Kutcher, 34, doesn’t actually need help in the dating department. Moore, his wife of six years, announced she was filing for divorce in November following reports he spent their wedding anniversary with two naked women in a hot tub. He later flew to Italy for the Christmas holidays with Scafaria. Most recently though, after members of the “That '70s Show” cast reunited for a TV special, he’s been seen with Kunis on several occasions and they enjoyed a three-day getaway to the coastal town of Carpinteria, California.

Kutcher certainly can afford any and all romantic getaways with his lady friends! In addition to his side job being the "president of pop" at Popchips — yes, that's his official title — the actor has inked a deal to return to “Two and a Half Men” next season, reports the Hollywood Reporter. He is expected to pull in somewhere between $700,000 to $725,000 per episode (or about $15 million to $16 million a year), which is a slightly higher paycheck than his costar Jon Cryer and double Angus T. Jones’  salary.
