Just ask James. Two weeks after his romantic Atlantic City date (not!) with the grand prize, Desiree Hartsock, he was caught in this this season's he-said, he-said scandal.
The setting was Barcelona, where Des brought her eight boys for some amoroso, but things quickly got heated -- and not in a sexy way!
Drew got the first one-on-one date, and after a very long day that included making out, sightseeing, making out, hot chocolate sipping, making out, pastry eating, making out, guitarrista listening, making out, tapas tasting, making out (in an alley, no less!), he ended the date with a bombshell.
"There's something I have to say," he dramatically announced to Des after their final make-out session.
After verifying that Des actually wanted to hear his bad news (she did), Drew blurted out the ugly truth about a conversation he and Kasey overheard: "It was assumed that we were asleep," he said. "James said that he doesn't know what's going to happen with you, and he said that if he makes it into the top four, it will give him enough exposure and momentum to possibly be the next 'Bachelor.'"
Wow. Just wow. Suffice it to say, Des's reaction had the ABC censors working overtime.
The next day brought a group-date fiesta on a futbol field, while Des mulled over how she'd approach James: "A lot of things can be taken out of context," she reasoned. "I'm not going to go into the attack with James. I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt."
But first, Juan Pablo and five other boys (James, Brooks, Chris, Kasey, and Michael G.) played against Des's all-female, pro soccer team, where they were inevitably crushed by a score of 10-2. But the real crushing was reserved for James, who received a pummeling from Kasey, Chris, and Michael as they confronted him over what he said on the group-date bus.
In a nutshell, James's sordid conversation -- with the now-ousted Mikey -- allegedly detailed his plot to become the next "Bachelor," but not before indulging in some Chicago-area partying with a bevy of beautiful babes.
James proceeded to go all "Jersey Shore" on the guys, pointing fingers, spewing profanities (those poor ABC censors), and denying any wrong doing whatsoever.
Fast forward to Zak's one-on-one date with Des, which included an afternoon of art lessons and a naked guy -- who wasn't Zak -- posing for a portrait. Awkward! Zak got a rose, while James continued to get skewered back at the hotel.
Drew called him out for "dismissing" Des, while James contended he was allowed to talk about future scenarios. Oh boy, time to bring Des in to take care of business.
James immediately went into self-pity mode: "I'm sorry! Des, I've had a hard time… I think they're threatened by me.The conversation that took place was about scenarios. The different scenarios that could possibly happen. There's nothing wrong with that. Zero!" (Zero? As in how many more roses James has left in his future?)
But this guy's a charmer. Or a good kisser. Either way, Des was having a hard time letting go, especially when he said things like, "I'm here to fall in love with you."
That line bought him some safety time. Back at the compound, James was grilled again -- this time by a steaming Chris -- while Michael predicted, "If James gets a rose tonight, I think the group is going to collectively s--- themselves." So, er, let's hope he doesn't get a rose then.
Rose-ceremony time, and the plate of petals was looking sparse. That's because Des had six guys left, but only three buds to dole out. Yeah, yeah we know, this is the hardest decision she's had to make yet. After some crocodile tears, she handed the roses to Chris, Brooks, and Michael. Bye-bye James, but even worse, adios Juan Pablo!
In what was the Venezuelan stud's longest monologue of the season, J.P. said, "I came here to find somebody that is on the same page as me. Somebody who wants to have a family, have kids. I have my daughter at home, but I really want to have a wife and a couple other kids... Hopefully I'll find a stepmom for Camila very soon. It's very hard to date when you have a daughter." Awww….
As for James, being labeled a villain (or even worse, the next "Ben") is no fun, but it's nothing a boatload full of booze and bimbos can't cure. Chicago, here he comes!
Next week: It's off to Madeira, but first Des and her date have to figure out where that is!
