‘Big Bang Theory’ Cast Takes Over New York Stages as Kunal Nayyar Heads Off Broadway

Just as Jim Parsons gears up to return to Broadway in “An Act of God,” his co-star on “The Big Bang Theory,” Kunal Nayyar, will make his New York stage debut around the same time, starring opposite Jesse Eisenberg in the New Group’s Off Broadway premiere of Eisenberg’s play “The Spoils.”

Nayyar will play Nepalese immigrant Kalyan, the roommate of protagonist Ben (Eisenberg). The play’s storyline follows the sad-sack, unpopular Ben as he sets out to derail the impending marriage of his high school crush.

“The Spoils” is the third play written by and starring Eisenberg to appear on New York stages in recent seasons, following “Asuncion” and “The Revisionist.”

Nayyar adds further star power to “Spoils” and to the 20th anniversary season at the New Group, which opened its season with a revival of “Sticks and Bones” starring Holly Hunter, Bill Pullman and Richard Chamberlain. The company’s current show, “Rasheeda Speaking,” stars Dianne Wiest and was directed by Cynthia Nixon.

As Nayyar’s run in “Spoils” begins, Parsons will take on the starring role of God in David Javerbaum’s comedy “An Act of God,” which opens in May.

“Spoils” begins previews May 7 ahead of a June 2 opening.
