Heartbreaking 'Sister Wives' Miscarriage Revealed

TLC's reality show Sister Wives has been consistent in presenting both the triumphs and tribulations for polygamous Kody Brown and his four wives. But one of the most devastating family experiences is revealed in Sunday's all-new episode.

Meri -- the first to marry Kody and the mother of one of his 17 children -- recounts the devastating details of her past fertility problems and the fact that she suffered a miscarriage four years ago.

In the episode, airing Sunday at 9 p.m. on TLC, Meri describes her initial elation at learning she was pregnant after years of fertility issues. But she then tearfully explains how doctors were not able to detect a heartbeat at 10 weeks and confirmed at that time that her pregnancy was not viable.

Meanwhile, Utah prosecutors announced on Friday that they would not pursue criminal charges against the polygamous family and that the bigamy case against Brown and his four wives -- Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn -- has been closed.

The bigamy investigation in Utah prompted Brown to move with his wives and 16 children to Las Vegas, NV in January 2011.

In response to the investigation, the Browns filed a lawsuit against Utah County, as well as the state's governor and attorney general, claiming the state's bigamy statute violates their constitutional rights to due process, equal protection, free exercise of religion, free speech and freedom of association.

State officials and the Utah County Attorney have said the current policy is not to prosecute consenting adult polygamists under the state's bigamy statute as long as they are not committing additional crimes.

The news was welcomed by the Browns, although the family's attorney says they do not plan to drop their lawsuit. "I want to express our great relief for the Brown family that this long-standing threat has been finally lifted," Jonathan Turley said in a statement. "The family has spent years being publicly denounced as felons by prosecutors and had to move to Nevada to protect their family and children."
