Bill Weir Heads to CNN From ‘Nightline’

Nightline” co-anchor Bill Weir will join CNN in November as an anchor and chief innovation correspondent, the Time Warner cable-news network said Friday.

He is expected to be based in New York and work with producers to develop original programming across the network’s schedule.

“Bill’s range, sensibility and curiosity set him apart,” said Jeff Zucker, CNN Worldwide President, in a prepared statement. “He brings a unique storytelling style, perspective and sense of humor to CNN, and he will be a key player as we continue to expand our line-up.”

In addition to his anchoring and development roles, Weir will take up some coverage of what CNN called ” the innovation and technology space.” Weir has spent time covering technology concerns including Apple, Microsoft and Facebook in the past.

ABC announced earlier Friday that Dan Harris would take over Weir’s role on “Nightline.”
