Bourne Legacy Ousts Dark Knight Rises From Top Spot at the Box Office
It was a good weekend for sequels as The Bourne Legacy knocked The Dark Knight Rises from the top spot at the box office after three weeks at No. 1.
The fourth film in the Bourne series, which stars Jeremy Renner in the lead role, raked in $40.3 million in its opening weekend. New comedy The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, put up a respectable fight and came in just behind at $27.4 million.
Dark Knight Rises wards off Total Recall remake at weekend box office
In the No. 3 spot was The Dark Knight Rises with $19.5 million. The final film in the trilogy has grossed $390.1 million to date.
Hope Springs, which stars Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell, debuted in the fourth spot and earned $15.6 million.
The third Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie snagged $8.2 million for the fifth spot, while Total Recall fell all the way to No. 6 with $8.1 million after coming in second last week.
Rounding out the top 10: Ice Age: Continental Drift (No. 7, $6.8 million), Ted (No. 8, $3.3 million), Step Up Revolution (No. 9, $2.9 million) and The Amazing Spider-Man (No. 10, $2.2 million).
