Casting News: Ellen Burstyn Joins USA's Political Animals, Parenthood Actress to Army Wives

Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn has joined the cast of USA Network’s upcoming drama series Political Animals.

Army Wives Plots Life Goes On Reunion

Debuting this summer, the six-episode D.C.-based project from executive producers Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money) and Laurence Mark (Jerry Maguire) centers around newly-appointed Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (played by Sigourney Weaver).

Burstyn will play Margaret Barrish, the mother of Weaver’s character and a former Vegas showgirl. She is described as a tough Chicago broad with a biting tongue and sharp wit who’s the first one to open a bottle of booze to help her daughter through a political evening.

As previously announced, the cast also includes Lone Star‘s James Wolk and Gossip Girl‘s Sebastian Stan as polar-opposite twin brothers, Brittany Ishibashi (Ghostfacers) as Wolk’s fiancée, Carla Gugino (Entourage) as a journalist hellbent on destroying Barrish’s career, and Ciarán Hinds (Rome) as a jovial former president (and Elaine’s ex-husband).

In other casting news, Parenthood‘s Skyler Day, who portrays Drew’s girlfriend on NBC’s family drama, has been tapped as the daughter of Kelli Williams’ character on Lifetime’s Army Wives, per The Hollywood Reporter.
