CNN Anchor's Breast Cancer Scare: 'Angelina Jolie Gave Me Strength'

E! talk show host Chelsea Handler, aka Jennifer Aniston's BFF, has been outspoken about her opinion that Angelina Jolie is not "a girl's girl." CNN "Early Start" host Zoraida Sambolin, however, would probably disagree.

Sambolin opened up on Facebook about her recent breast cancer diagnosis. After being diagnosed, she was torn about how to proceed and says that Jolie's recent New York Times op-ed disclosure about her own preventive double mastectomy was helpful and empowering.

"I struggled for weeks trying to figure out how to tell you that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer," wrote Sambolin. "Then Angelina Jolie shares her story of a double mastectomy and gives me strength and an opening."

In "My Medical Choice," the actress revealed a private -- how did she do that? -- journey that began when genetic tests confirmed that she carried BRCA 1, a gene that elevates one's risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Jolie, whose mother passed away at age 56 after battling ovarian cancer, elected to remove her breasts and reduce her chances of developing breast cancer. The mother of six wrote: "I am writing about it now because I hope that other women can benefit from my experience."

Sambolin's tribute is a remarkably quick, albeit sad, turnaround for Jolie's investment. Sambolin's double mastectomy is scheduled for May 28.
