Comic-Con 2013: CW's 'The Vampire Diaries' - Where Love Isn't Dead

Oh, what a web The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" has woven over its past four seasons. Judging from their panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, it's about to get more twisted.

Executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries joined cast members Cat Graham, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Candice Accola.

The biggest questions that fans seem to really care about is either who is with who romantically or who will get with who in the future. For now, we know that Elena (Dobrev) has chosen her Salvatore brother: Damon (Somerhalder). So, the biggest question among fans is what are the series' intentions with the off-again-on-again couple.

"We decided to try to keep them happy this year," Plec revealed. "We'll see how far we get with that."

"I don't think anyone on this show gets to have a happily ever after," Somerhalder interjected."It's good mixing it up. It is mystic falls and essentially you can't be happy that long. But, to see the interaction between Damon and Elena, he's smitten and it's cool."

The other big question (that also spanned the earlier panel for spinoff, "The Originals") is where the smoldering flirtation between Caroline and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is heading.

To hear Accola talk about "Klaroline" as the fans call the couple, it would sound as if it's over. College will present itself with not only known romantic interests but also some new ones.

"She's pretty determined to get Tyler to college since Klaus is gone," Accola said, seemingly dismissing the romance with the vampire as over.

"Klaus has his own show," Somerhalder, the voice of reason, yelled.

But, really, it's the producers and writers who will have the last say. And although logistics and schedules will make it difficult for Klaus to return to Mystic Falls next season, Plec said, "The real question is if Caroline will make it to New Orleans."

Even the deceased have relationships to worry about. That's the case for witch-turned-ghost Bonnie. Graham said that Bonnie's mind is still very much made up on Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). His resurrection from the dead makes that more difficult, of course.

But, again, Somerhalder put it all in perspective, "They're all dead!"
