‘Community’ Exec Producers Neil Goldman And Garrett Donovan Sign Deal With 20th TV
After six years at NBC, comedy writer-producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan have closed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV to develop new projects and work on existing series. The pact marks Goldman and Donovan’s return to the studio where they started their TV careers as staff writers on animated comedy Family Guy, moving up the ranks to Executive Story Editors. The duo then spent eight seasons on Bill Lawrence’s NBC/ABC comedy Scrubs, rising to executive producers.
For the past six years, Goldman and Donovan were under overall deals at NBC Universal and spent the last three seasons as executive producers on the NBC/Sony TV comedy series Community, which has cultivated a devoted following by a core group of passionate fans. That is something 20th TV chairman Dana Walden is hoping Goldman and Donovan would be able to emulate with their series for the studio. “Neil and Garrett are funny and talented and fit into the objective the studio has to build a roster of very talented showrunners who can not only run one of our shows — newly ordered or ongoing series — but also have a lot of potential as developers,” she said, adding that the duo came highly recommended by Lawrence. Also, “they are the most entertaining guys in a meeting,” she noted. During their stint on Scrubs, Goldman and Donovan received a writing Emmy nomination in 2004 for their ‘My Screwup’ episode. They are with UTA and attorneys PJ Shapiro and Bryan Wolf.
