Charlie Sheen has officially thrown his name into the hat to be considered for one of the vacant judges' chairs on American Idol, telling host Ryan Seacrest that he'd be "genuinely interested" in the job.

Calling in to Seacrest's radio show Tuesday, Sheen responded to reports that Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe had mentioned him as a possible replacement for departing judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. "It kind of came out of nowhere and ... it seems so out of the blue that it almost made perfect sense," Sheen told Seacrest. "I thought this could be a lot of fun. Seriously ... I'm genuinely interested. It's so different, it could be radical."

If he's tapped for the role, Sheen would have to pull double duty with Idol and his new FX series Anger Management.

Sheen also addressed his recent exit from Twitter.

"There was something about it that never felt right," Sheen told Seacrest. "It's hard to tell 8 million people, 'Hey, don't take it personally.' It just never felt like it represented who I am and who my fans have come to know me to be. I've always been a really private guy. ... I just lost a passion for it, I guess that's what it was."
