"Dancing With the Stars" pro dancers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff are getting back together -- on Broadway, that is. The former real-life couple (they broke off their engagement in 2009) will reunite for the second time this year for a summertime run in the upcoming Broadway show "Forever Tango."

The dancing duo previously performed together in the 2006 Broadway show "Burn the Floor," where they met, danced, and fell in love, but that was before their very public and not-so-amicable breakup. Of course, it may have been the latest season of "Dancing With the Stars" that paved the way for this summer's steamy Broadway reunion.

In April, Len Goodman's "Side-by-Side Challenge" featured this year's first buzzy reunion between Maks and his former fiancé when they teamed up on "Dancing With the Stars" for an opening number, then later for the "Side-by-Side Challenge" jive. It turned out to be a good (dance) move for both of them.

That's because things weren't always all good between the two. Shortly after the couple's split in 2009, Maks told People of his relationship with Karina: "I feel completely betrayed. I'm done. I don't want to get into the specifics. Let's just leave it at I'm done." (He later vowed to the New York Post that he would "never speak" to his ex again.)

Fast forward four years, and their "DWTS" reunion had the Ukrainian pro dancer telling Xfinity, "There was zero tension. We were having great fun, and personal things are going to stay personal."

Karina added that while she wondered if reuniting with Maks would be "awkward," in the end, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise: "We're good. We're better than we've been since the breakup. It's a lot better. And we're dancing for fun, for a living, wearing rhinestones and neon colors. I mean, let's put things in perspective!"

As for this summer's Broadway run, Karina told the Associated Press, "We had our ups and we had the lowest of the lows, and we can take that into the dance and make it that much better."

Maks added, "Aside from what transpired, I do have respect for her as a dancer. We went to a bad spot at one point or another, but it's been documented: I've never lost respect. I've always been looking forward to one day [getting] this out of the way."

So make way, Great White Way!

On Monday's "Good Morning America," anchor Sam Champion point blank asked the giggling duo about their "incredibly cute" chemistry: "Is there still heat going on here? Is this the best of friends? What's happening on the dance floor?" he asked.

"It changes every 30 seconds," Maks deadpanned.

But Karina set the record straight: "We are definitely very passionate together," she said.
