It looks like Disney has found its next High School Musical!

The Friday premiere of the Disney Channel original movie Descendants captured 6.6 million viewers, according to early Nielsen numbers, making it the most-watched cable TV movie of the year. And as if that wasn't impressive enough, the musical, about the children of iconic Disney villains, had already been seen by 1.4 million viewers on the WATCH Disney Channel app in the six days leading up its official television premiere.

So should we expect a Descendants 2?

"Sure. I think -- were you to ask the cast and the crew -- they'd agree that we'd all love to come back and play here again," director-choreographer Kenny Ortega told The Huffington Post. "The Descendants world really is a wonderful place to play in. More to the point, there are so many characters from Disney animated films that we could draw upon, pull in. There are so many more stories we could tell."

The ending of the movie definitely kept the door open for more stories. In the final moments, Mal's (Dove Cameron) eyes flash a chilling green, hinting that she might have more of her mother Maleficent in her than we thought.

"We were like, 'I'm not sure they're going to let us put it in, but we really reallywanted to," Cameron told TVLine of the twist ending. The actress even has a whole plot imagined for what's next for Mal and her friends should Disney order a second film.

"I feel like people are expecting it," said Booboo Stewart, who plays Jay, the son of Jafar. "They think this is just the first [of several movies]."
