Donna Mills, Vanessa Marcil, Lindsay Hartley Bring Queen-Size ‘Drama’ (And Fun) to Pop: Somebody Say ‘Action!’ (Video)

Pop’s new “Queens of Drama” debuts Sunday and the show’s stunning stars –Donna Mills, Vanessa Marcil and Lindsay Hartley — each take on TV roles they’ve never played before: The ones playing themselves. And the actresses admitted that the transition took some getting used to while shooting the project.

“One of the first times we were all together sitting in my yard and we’re all sitting there just staring at each other,” Mills said, describing one of “Queens of Dramas” first shoots. “I finally turned to one of the producers and said,’We’re all actresses. Somebody has to say ‘Action!’ or nobody is going to say anything.”

Mills, Marcil and Hartley — well-known to soap opera audiences for their wildly popular characters on “Knots Landing,” “General Hospital” and “Passions,” respectively — sat down with TheWrap’s executive editor Joseph Kapsch for a new episode of “Drinking With the Stars,” where they discussed the new reality series, which documents six actresses as they work together to launch their own new primetime series.

“It’s six women who come together to produce and create their own nighttime drama,” Mills explained. “Through creating an idea, to having a script, getting a showrunner, all of the things that you have to do.”

“You’ll learn about us. You’ll learn how women can get together and how we have our strong opinions,” Hartley said. “And you’ll see us work through that successfully — or not.”

All three actresses agreed that the most important thing they want viewers to take away from the show is being entertained.

“It’s not the profound, heavy message show. It’s supposed to be fun,” Marcil said.

The show is produced by Thinkfactory Media, with Adam Reed, Adam Freeman, Aaron Fishman, Tim Laurie, and Leslie Greif, serving as executive producers.

“Queens of Drama” premieres Sunday, April 26 at 10 p.m. on Pop in a special kickoff timeslot after the Daytime Emmys. The show then settles into its regular Wednesday slot airing at 8 p.m.
