A&E has ordered 10 episodes of the Psycho-inspired series Bates Motel, the network announced on Monday.

From Lost's Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Lights' Kerry Ehrin, the drama is a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates' early years. It will focus on his relationship with his mother Norma and how he became a serial killer.

"We are proud to be partnering with and Kerry Ehrin on their thrilling reinvention of one of the most compelling characters in cinematic history," A&E executives Rob DeBitetto and David McKillop said. "It's a provocative project from two of the best storytellers in the business and we're looking forward to getting started."

Casting on the project will begin immediately with a premiere slated for 2013.
