Wardrobe injustice? It's been twenty years since the series ended, but Elizabeth Berkley still gets upset when looking back at the outfits she had to wear on the 1989 TV series Saved by the Bell. During an appearance on Bethenny Frankel's talk show, Bethenny, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, the 41-year-old actress complained about the unsexy costumes she had to wear to play brainy feminist Jessie Spano.
"I didn't like it because I felt like as a young woman, just because you are a feminist, why can't you also dress in things that make you feel girly and empowered," Berkley told Frankel.
The talk show host agreed, noting, "And Tiffani [Thiessen] used to always get to wear all kinds of . . ."
"Right the bikinis," Berkley interjected about her costar who played head cheerleader Kelly Kapowski. "They used to put me in a one piece. I'm sorry, but at 16 you don't want to be the girl in the one piece with baggy shorts."
Though Berkley spoke out freely about wardrobe woes, the actress wouldn't dish about off-screen hookups between her costars -- no matter how hard Frankel tried to get her to talk!
"There was so much going on behind the scenes and it was like high school," Frankel said of the show about six students and their years at Bayside High School. "People were hooking up with each other."
"Well, there was flirtation," Berkley clarified.
"I feel like Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar were hooking up," Frankel guessed. "Mario was a little on the sly. I don't know who you hooked up with. You were a little more stealth about it. I'm sure you did, everybody did. Come on, who did you hook up with?"
Despite the host's begging, Berkley kept her mouth shut and held her hands above her head in the shape of a halo.
