Focus Features has set a release date of August 1, 2014 for Fifty Shades of Grey, the high-profile adaptation of the EL James novel.
The move, which has been expected since Universal chairman Adam Fogelson told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that he wanted the film ready for next summer, puts the steamy romance in the heart of the busiest movie season. The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson from a script by Kelly Marcel, will be released domestically by Focus with a worldwide release to follow from Universal Pictures International.
