First Look at New Carrie Bradshaw in ‘Sex and the City’ Prequel

AnnaSophia Robb has been spotted in New York City shooting The CW's “Sex and the City” prequel, “The Carrie Diaries.” So how well does the young star fill Sarah Jessica Parker’s Jimmy Choos?

From a first look, the blond talent, who is just 18, is dressed for her age and definitely gets the hair right: Her straight locks are crimped a la SJP circa 1998. A blue dress is consumed by an enormous hooded sweatshirt. And she has on Uggs -- a teen staple but a fashionista don’t!

Still, the star has one big fan: Parker herself. Robb revealed that Parker had, in true Carrie Bradshaw style, penned her a missive. She told Us Weekly, "She sent me a letter! I wrote her one back, too.” She added, “She was just very encouraging about it all. It was really cool!"

The "Soul Surfer" actress said she’s been catching up on the show for notes on the older version of her character. "We've been doing a lot of rehearsals this week, and I've been watching the show and really trying to click with the character," she said.

The show will be a different take from the sex-filled, adult-themed HBO show based on the Candace Bushnell books about the adventures of four single women in Manhattan. Says the star to Us Weekly, “I know everyone's going to compare it to 'Sex and the City,' but we're never going to be that. The show is more for my generation, but it's set in the '80s, so it's fun."

For those who imagine a teen version of “SATC,” it's hardly that. The young-adult novel tracks Carrie in high school, crushing on the hottest boy in class, Sebastian Kydd, and competing with the most popular girl in school, Donna LaDonna.

It’s a teenaged world, so every decision is major. Dra-ma. The seeds of the sexy, single New York columnist are certainly there, but this story, is, well, so high school.

The Denver native had her first big break portraying Violet Beauregarde in Tim Burton’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in 2005. Since then, she has had major parts in Hollywood fare such as “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Jumper.” This year, she will be seen portraying Wendy in “Pan,” a reimagining of the Peter Pan story.
