You can call this one a match made in fandom heaven.

Martin Freeman, who plays John Watson on Sherlock and starred as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's epic Hobbit trilogy, has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel announced Tuesday.

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in The Office, Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said Marvel's Kevin Feige in a statement. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

25 Bubble Shows: Which will survive?

As is the case with most Marvel projects, details of Freeman's role are being kept under lock and key and hidden in a bunker somewhere in the New Mexico desert. I imagine Marvel probably wishes they could send Jeremy Renner there right now before he does or says anything else that will anger the internet.

What do you think of Freeman's casting? And who do you think the Sherlock star is playing?

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
