Found! Lupita Nyong'o's Stolen $150K Oscar Gown Returned to Scene of the Crime

Call off the search parties, Lupita Nyong'o's Oscar dress has been recovered!

Three days after the $150,000 Calvin Klein dress went missing from the 12 Years a Slave actress' hotel room, West Hollywood police confirm they have located a "white dress resembling the one worn on Oscar night by Lupita Nyong'o." The gown is said to be covered in over 6,000 white Akoya pearls.

Police responded to a tip from TMZ Friday after the media outlet was contacted by a man who claimed he had snatched the dress from the actress’s hotel room. The man reportedly told TMZ he had taken two pearls off the gown and took them to Los Angeles’ garment district to be appraised. Allegedly, he decided to call in and report the stolen dress when he was told the pearls were fake.

When West Hollywood detectives arrived on the scene at the London Hotel in West Hollywood. They found the dress in a garment bag in an abandoned second-floor bathroom.

"Detectives will work with the owners of the dress, to confirm if that is [Nyong’o’s] dress," said the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station in a statement. "At this time no one has been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing."

In a statement released to Women's Wear Daily, Francisco Costa, Women's Creative Director at Calvin Klein Collection, said, "Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand."

N'yongo also made a statement about the good news. "Collaborating with Francisco Costa for my Oscar dress this year was such a special and unforgettable experience," she said. "I'm happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art."
