Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence is partnering with Justin Halpern — the writer who turned his Twitter feed into the short-lived CBS sitcom $#*! My Dad Says — to develop a new comedy at Fox.

The network has given a pilot production commitment to I Suck at Girls, based on Halpern's latest book, which was released in May. In the book, Halpern meets up with his dad — yes, the same one who famously says all that $#*! — and tells him he's going to propose to his girlfriend. His dad tells him to sit back and take stock of his life before making such a big decision.

The half-hour comedy would be shot in the single-camera format. The logline: "A story about a boy becoming a man, and a man becoming a father, in a time before coming of age was something you could Google."

Halpern has been working on Cougar Town under Lawrence. He'll write and executive produce the pilot along with Patrick Schumacker, who also helped Halpern create $#*! My Dad Says and now works on Cougar Town. Also executive producing are Lawrence and Jeff Ingold (with Warner Bros. TV as the studio).

Amazon gave a rave review to I Suck at Girls: "Relationships provide great comedic material and Halpern makes the most of his experiences coming of age amidst the opposite sex," wrote reviewer Seira Wilson. "Halpern puts it all out there and, as his dad might say, I laughed my ass off."
