Funny Or Die Hires Gary Sanchez’s Owen Burke as First Editor-in-Chief, Promotes Chris Bruss to Digital President

Funny Or Die has promoted Chris Bruss to president of Digital Content and hired Gary Sanchez creative executive Owen Burke as the company’s first editor-in-chief of content.

“As Funny Or Die continues to expand our digital content in all forms on all platforms, I am incredibly excited to have two so talented people to run it on a daily basis,” said Funny Or Die CEO Dick Glover. “Chris is a great executive who has successfully led our Branded Entertainment division since inception.”

“Owen was born to be the day-to-day creative head of FOD. He’s collaborative, smart, and most of all, very, very funny. And his dogfighting days are a thing of the past,” added Adam McKay, co-founder of Funny Or Die.

Together, Bruss and Burke will oversee all digital content creation, production and strategy for the company, including Funny Or Die’s website and its celebrity, topical and political video and non-video content; branded and partner content; Funny Or Die News; social content — which now produces daily content for over 15 platforms; and all content for Funny Or Die’s apps.

Content creation from the newly formed Funny Or Die Washington, D.C. office will also be managed under the duo. Additionally, Bruss will remain president of Gifted Youth, Funny Or Die’s commercial production and creative services company.

Bruss has been with Funny Or Die since 2009, and during that time has helped build and grow its Branded Entertainment division. During his tenure, Bruss has overseen the production of over 400 branded entertainment campaigns and streamlined the process between the world of ad agencies and brands and the comedy/content community.

Burke ran the Television Department for Will Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions, where he also served as a producer on the company’s various television projects such as “Drunk History,” “Bad Judge” and pilots for both cable and network. He also served as a consultant for Funny Or Die from the company’s inception in 2007, advising on personnel and content.

Burke most recently was executive producer on the Funny Or Die produced “The Chris Gethard Show” for Fusion.

Before his time at Gary Sanchez, Burke served as Artistic Director for the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in New York. He performs regularly at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles.
