Production has already begun on the sixth season of “Game of Thrones.” The series is nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards, including best drama series.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said Thursday at the TCA summer press tour that “Game of Thrones” is likely to end following its eighth season.

“Obviously we’re shooting season six now, hopefully discussing seven,” Lombardo said Thursday. He also indicated that the final word on when to end the series rests with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. “I think their feeling is we’re looking at two more seasons after six. I’m hoping they’ll change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

McShane is represented by Independent Talent Group, Gallant Management, ICM and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

EW first reported the casting.
