Donald Trump may say he's "for traditional marriage" but according to George Takei, there are some important details to consider.

Takei recently sat down with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC's The Last Word to talk about his own perception of the latest candidate for the GOP presidential nomination and what Trump has to say about same-sex marriage.

Back in 2011, when the Star Trek actor and LGBT activist appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice, Takei challenged Trump to sit down and discuss marriage equality over lunch, and to Takei's surprise, Trump accepted.

"He said, 'You know what, George, I just came from a gay marriage,'" Takei said. "And he told me 'They are good friends of mine. It was a beautiful marriage. They're wonderful friends.' And I said, 'Then why can't you support marriage equality? You go to weddings of same-sex couples.' And he said, 'Well, I'm for traditional marriage.'"

Takei himself has been with his husband Brad for the past 28 years. The two have been married since 2008.

The two ultimately agreed to disagree, though Takei believes Trump's stance on the matter could change. Aside from the face that Trump has been married three times - "that is not traditional," Takei said (though he understands his quest to find "the one") - Trump is ultimately "is a businessman," the actor said.

"I think he's capable of saying anything that will be good business or in whatever situation he will find himself in," Takei told O'Donnell.

But Takei is also taking into account that Trump has been married three times. Tthat is not traditional," he said. "I think Donald trump's interpretation of marriage is something that he really himself doesn't believe in."
