NEW GIRL: Cast L-R: Hannah Simone, Jake Johnson, Zooey Deschanel, Lamorne Morris and Max Greenfield. …

"New Girl" finished Season 1 much as it had begun. The show was almost completely reinvented when Nick (Jake Johnson) almost moved out -- almost. There was almost a new quirky character to take his place -- almost. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) almost had a relationship -- almost. And then almost everything went back to how it was, with the exception of some character growth along the way.

One "almost" situation that will be missed was Schmidt and Cece. That was one hilarious and inexplicable relationship! Much like Cece, viewers hungered for more of the couple, despite the feeling of disgust at Schmidt's disturbing and strangely endearing behavior. According to a Wetpaint interview, they'll be headed for friendship, although a future relationship for the two is not completely ruled out.

TVGuide.com confirmed that the Schmidt-Cece relationship is heading back to friendship (at least in the short term) when they learned that Nelson Franklin will play Cece's new boyfriend, Robby. Cece seems to enjoy falling for good guys who embarrass her, as Robby is supposed to be a "genuinely nice guy" who is a ridiculously horrible dancer.

A slew of guest stars have also been announced for the upcoming season. Entertainment Weekly revealed that David Walton ("Bent") will be playing Jess's (Zooey Deschanel) new love interest. TV Line learned that Anna Maria Horsford ("Amen") will be playing Winston's (Lamorne Morris) tenacious mom and that Rob Riggle will play Schmidt's competitive cousin, Schmidt! You can bet that "Schmidt will hit the fan" when you're "up Schmidt creek without a paddle" … and other "Schmidt" jokes (insert your own here).

See what "Schmidt happens" on "New Girl" when Season 2 premieres with the episode "Re-launch" on Tuesday, 9/25 at 8PM EST on Fox.
