Tom Hardy To Host ITV’s ‘Poaching Wars’

Tom Hardy will host ITV documentary series Poaching Wars With Tom Hardy, a look at the wholesale wildlife poaching crisis in Africa. ITV says the actor conceived the proposition for the two one-hour films which are co-produced by Burning Bright Productions and Hardy’s Hardy, Son & Baker. Large-scale elephant and rhino slaughter are bringing both species to the brink of extinction across Africa and Hardy trekked across the continent to meet the farmers who have lost livestock to poachers and key figures from organizations which are fighting back. Hardy, Dean Baker and Clive Tulloh are exec producing. Ewen Thompson produces and directs.

Aussie Nets Pay $568M For Cricket Matches

Cricket may be something of a mystery to U.S. sports fans, but a new deal Down Under confirms its position as a top draw for Aussies. Cricket Australia has entered a $568M broadcast arrangement with Channels Nine and Ten to air all international games live and in full. Channel Nine will take rights for a further five years and has also agreed to a $60M joint venture to develop new digital products, including live streaming. Cricket will be the only major sport in Australia to stream matches live on PCs. Network Ten will air the domestic KFC Big Bash League matches as part of the deal. “The average annual value of the broadcast of Australian cricket in Australia to Australian viewers has just increased 118% compared to the last five years,” Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland said.

ITV Tunes Up ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’ Game

ITV has set Your Face Sounds Familiar for air later this year in the UK during Saturday night primetime. Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon will host with comedian Paddy McGuinness. The format, originally developed by Endemol Spain, will see celebrities challenged to perform as different iconic music artist every week before a panel of judges including Spice Girl Emma Bunton. The show is produced by Initial, an Endemol company, for ITV. ABC in the U.S. is proceeding with its own six-episode version, Sing Your Face Off.

Vision TV Will Host ‘Mr. Selfridge’ In Canada

Canada’s Vision TV has acquired Jeremy Piven drama Mr. Selfridge from ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The group took both the first season which aired earlier this year and the upcoming second season. The deal is one of a flurry of sales that ITVGSE has just completed in Canada. The ITV Studios America produced Kentucky Bidders was pre-sold to specialty channel OLN and French-Canadian broadcaster V has commissioned Zone 3 to produce a seventh series of Un Souper Presque Parfait, the local version of ITV Studios hit format, Come Dine With Me. Also in French-speaking Canada, Canal Vie has acquired the fourth season of Four Weddings USA.

‘Mood Indigo’ To Open Karlovy Vary Festival

The 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will kick off with Michel Gondry’s whimsical fantasy Mood Indigo. The fest runs from June 28-July 6. The main competition includes the next film from Sightseers director Ben Wheatley, A Field In England, along with Tiny Furniture editor Lance Edmands’ feature debut Bluebird. Zodiak Taking Latest ‘Braquo’ To Mipcom

Zodiak Rights is to launch sales on the third season of Canal Plus hit Braquo at Mipcom in October. Produced by Capa Drama, the series won the 2012 best drama International Emmy. The first two seasons sold in 90 territories including the U.S. where Hulu acquired it. The third season has already been acquired by Fox in the UK which aired the first two. This third season is written by A Prophet screenwriter Abdel Raouf Dafri and stars Jean-Hugues Anglade, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Joseph Malerba and Karole Rocher. The show follows a squad of Paris cops who exist in the blurred boundaries at the very edge of the law, often using violence and intimidation to get the job done.

Bollywood’s Jiah Khan Found Hanged

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has died. The actress was found hanged at her home in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday, according to Reuters. Police sources said the death appeared to be a suicide and was not being treated as suspicious. Khan was born in New York and grew up in London. Her best-known role came in her Bollywood debut, Nishabd, in which she starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She later starred in the 2008 psychological thriller Ghajini and the 2010 comedy Housefull.
