The Goldbergswill be riffing on another classic '80s movie when it returns for its third season on Sept. 23 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC. After giving us its takes on The Goonies and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the nostalgic, heartfelt comedy will start the season with a Risky Business-themed episode.

"I wanted to start with a big splash," said creator Adam Goldberg at the Television Critics Association fall previews. "So we're crashing cars and we're doing the whole thing. It's going to be awesome."

Goldberg stressed that deciding to incorporate these film homages "has to happen organically. We start with the story first." So, you won't be seeing young Adam (Sean Giambrone) play Raiders of the Lost Ark just because the writers love the movie. But Goldberg did tease that another big '80s movie homage is in the works for Season 3...but the movie in question is locked up tighter than Beverly's hairdo.

"Is it Charlotte's Web," star Jeff Garlin asked? "It's Charlotte's Web," Goldberg joked.

Meanwhile, there is still plenty of material to mine from Goldberg's own library of home movies for stories, but "the disappointing thing is the best videos I can't show - they're just so embarrassing," said Goldberg, whose family gave him a list of tapes that he is forbidden to show to the public. "It's a lot of family arguments," he said, explaining that his brother Barry is particularly sensitive to what real-life moments are shown on the small screen. "Barry's an emotional guy and he's like 20 in some of [the videos] and he's crying."

Whether we'll ever see Adam's Bar Mitzvah hasn't been decided. Real-life Adam Goldberg invited Stephen King to his special day and got a response. "If we were to do it, it would probably be this season," Goldberg said. "We're just trying to figure out what the story is."

"The good thing about setting the show in '1980-something' is it can go on for as long as we want," said Goldberg. "If we're on long enough and we get bored, maybe we'll go to the '90s."
