‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Ellen Pompeo on How Shondaland Would Handle Donald Trump: ‘Cut His Vocal Cords Out’

Shonda Rhimes and friends have a few interesting ideas on how Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope might handle Donald Trump as a presidential candidate.

“Do you think she would tell him to do something about the hair?” Rhimes asked her “Scandal” star who plays the Washington, D.C.-based crisis manager when prompted by a TCA journalist during Tuesday’s Shondaland panel.

“There’s a really good hair department on the show,” Washington responded at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. “We’ve had characters say outrageous things on our show so it wouldn’t be out of the question for someone to say outrageous things on our show.”

Ellen Pompeo of “Grey’s Anatomy” probably had the best suggestion: “You could send him over to Meredith and I could cut his vocal cords out,” she chimed in.

Pete Nowalk, Viola Davis and Betsy Beers were also on the ABC afternoon panel.

ABC Thursdays have proven to be a start to finish ratings hit, with Shondaland TV series “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder” all in a row. The Paul Lee-run broadcast network dubbed that lineup “Thank God It’s Thursday,” complete with popular hashtag #TGIT.

Shondaland returns to ABC on Thursday, Sep. 24, and runs in order from 8 p.m. to 11.
