Gritty ‘Little Women’ Series in Development at CW

The “Little Women” are returning to the small screen, but they might look a bit different this time around. CBS Studios and The CW have put into development a dystopian take on the Louisa May Alcott classic, TheWrap has learned.

The series, from CBS in association with Solar Drive Productions, follows Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy, now “disparate, half-sisters,” as they band together in order to survive the dystopic streets of Philadelphia and unravel a conspiracy that stretches far beyond anything they have ever imagined — all while trying not to kill each other in the process.

Michael Weatherly will be an executive producer on the project, with Alexis Jolly as a writer and exec producer as well.

“Little Women” has been adapted several times for the screen, most famously in 1994 with Winona Ryder, Claire Danes and Christian Bale starring.
