Hannibal Buress Shares Fake ‘Daily Show’ Audition (Video)

Hannibal Buress may have his own Comedy Central series on the way, but only after realizing he wasn’t up to the task of taking on a nightly news show.

As promotion for his upcoming sketch series “Why? With Hannibal Buress,” Comedy Central released Buress’ joke audition to replace Jon Stewart as host of “The Daily Show.”

“Why am I even doing this? There’s no chance they’re going to give this show to a black dude,” Buress said, joking about the surprise generated when Trevor Noah, a black man, was named the new host of the series.

The fake audition features Buress sitting at a desk in front of the “Daily Show” logo unleashing a string of non sequiturs and random thoughts without actually delivering any news or commentary.

“Do you think Barack Obama is secretly a germaphobe and just fighting through it every day?” He wonders aloud. “And now your Moment of Ben … At the end of each episode I plan on playing a clip from a Ben Stiller movie to liven people up.”

About halfway through the clip Buress realizes, to his dismay, that “The Daily Show” is in fact on every day. “I thought ‘The Daily Show’ was a euphemism for once a week,” he says.

“Why? With Hannibal Buress” premieres July 8 at 10:30 p.m.
