HBO Chief Takes Shot at Starz: ‘What’s ‘Survivor’s Remorse’?’

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo is not a fan of Starz’s “Survivor’s Remorse.”

During a session at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour for football comedy “Ballers” on Thursday, star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked about a statement from Starz claiming that critics preferred that network’s basketball comedy, “Survivor’s Remorse,” to the HBO series.

“Sure, there’s always room for improvement,” Johnson said, before going on to express confidence in his show’s creative team and touting the show’s Season 1 ratings.

Lombardo was less diplomatic when asked about the same press release.

“That so funny, it’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Lombardo said. “I kind of said, ‘What’s ‘Survivor’s Remorse’?’ And I guess that says it all.”

Starz is headed by CEO Chris Albrecht, who left HBO in 2007 after serving as the network’s chairman and CEO.

The network is scheduled to present a TCA panel for “Survivor’s Remorse” Friday. The show is produced by Mike O’Malley, LeBron James, Tom Werner, Maverick Carter, Paul Wachter and Victor Levin.
