Hot Trailer: Lifetime's Steel Magnolias Remake
“They laughed together, they cried together and always stuck together” says the first trailer for Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias, which promises to cast the 1989 film in a new light.
From the producers of Chicago and Hairspray, the TV-movie remake features an all-African-American cast, including Oscar nominee Queen Latifah (who also executive-produces) in the Sally Field role, Emmy winner Alfre Woodard (True Blood) stepping in for Shirley MacLaine, Tony winner Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show) making like Olympia Dukakis and Grammy-winning songstress Jill Scott grabbing Dolly Parton’s spot.

Rounding out the female cast, Rashad’s real-life daughter (and recurring Smash player) Condola fills the Julia Roberts role, while newcomer Adepero Oduye subs for Daryl Hannah.
