Hulk smash lousy news!

Mark Ruffalo recently sat down for a roundtable interview at the Venice Film Festival for his new movie, Spotlight. Italian website BadTaste.it asked him about his superhero character's role in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, and learned something shocking.

"According to Ruffalo, Hulk will not be present in the film," the site reported (translated from Italian by this journalist, who happened to study abroad in Florence in college).

Fall's must-watch new shows

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, mild-mannered Bruce Banner struggled with controlling the Hulk. "Where in this world am I not a threat?" he asked. Later in the movie, he shut off communication from the jet he was piloting. Nick Fury later reported he'd landed somewhere near Fiji -- which, based on what happened to Coulson, is code for "somewhere secret I don't want to tell you about."

"[The Hulk] is missing and they don't know where," Ruffalo explained to BadTaste. "I had believed I would be in the film, but in the end evidently whatever happened to the Hulk was too big, and Marvel wants to use that information at a later time. ... Right now, they want to have the revelation of what happened to him be a secret, because it is something very big."

One early version of the script had Hulk in it, but not for long.

"My character was inserted in the script, but then was taken out," Ruffalo explained. "Maybe he'll never come back."

This news makes sense given that Ruffalo was not included in a list of the cast for the movie, though he seemed to be dropping hints that he'd be there.
