Jennifer Hudson takes a stand!

On Sunday, Sept. 9, Oprah Winfrey sat down with Jennifer Hudson in her gorgeous Chicago high-rise apartment. Hudson was resplendent with her fit body poured into a form-fitting, little black dress. The confident secure woman who answered Winfrey's questions with grace has come a long way from the awkward duckling who walked the Oscar red carpet in 2007 wearing an unfortunate bolero. Of course, she won the Oscar that night so it ultimately didn't really matter what she looked like.

Hudson and Winfrey shared the easy rapport of girlfriends as they chatted on "Oprah's Next Chapter." Winfrey has long been a mentor and supporter of the "Dreamgirls" star. Hudson has had a rollercoaster of a ride since bursting onto the scene on FOX's "American Idol." Jennifer was the 7th runner-up that season. The show's acerbic former judge Simon Cowell once took umbrance at the fact that the starlet referred to "Idol" as a "stepping stone." At the time, Cowell bitterly remarked, "Jennifer Hudson said 'American Idol' was a stepping stone for her. Stepping stone? It was her big opportunity to become noticed, and she got noticed."

Her Body

Jennifer famously lost 80 pounds and is a Weight Watchers spokesperson. Of course, this is a conversation factor in any interview she does. Winfrey asked the actress-singer about her body image and body love issues. Hudson confessed to being confused the first time that a correspondent asked her on the red carpet about "how it feels to be a big girl in Hollywood." She literally looked around to see who they were talking about.

The "Sex and the City" movie actress claims that she always felt great in her skin. She said that she has more fashion options however, and friends have been acting differently toward her. She even said that some people are friendlier to her in her thinner state! Hudson pointed out that she has made a lifestyle choice and does not view dieting as a fad.

Her Relationship

David Otunga, Jennifer's fiance and the father of her son David Jr., also took her side at the interview. Otunga is a Harvard-educated attorney who has followed his dream of becoming a pro-wrestler. David was loving and affectionate toward Jenniferm saying that she was sexy at any size, whether a size 16 or a 6. We love that!

Her Family

Oprah also included Julia Hudson, Jennifer's sister, in the conversation. The two lost their mother, brother, and Jennifer's nephew at the hands of convicted murderer William Balfour. Balfour and Julia were married.

Oprah Winfrey's "Next Chapter" series has become a benchmark at the new network. Oprah's in-depth interviews with pop-culture phenoms such as the Kardashians, Paris Jackson, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and Rihanna showcase the former talk show host doing what she does best.
