Jimmy Smits to Star in Baz Luhrmann's Netflix Musical
Jimmy Smits has joined Baz Luhrmann's Netflix musical dramaThe Get Down, Deadline reports.
The Sons of Anarchy alum will star as Papa Fuerte, a South Bronx political boss who delivers services the city fails to provide, such as jobs, housing and healthcare.
The Get Down will explore the birth of hip-hop, punk and disco through the lives and music of several South Bronx teenagers in the 1970s. Luhrmann will executive produce the one-hour series, as well as direct the first two episodes and the Season 1 finale.
