Joe Scarborough Rips Media for Covering White House Correspondents’ Dinner Instead of Covering Baltimore Riots (Video)
Joe Scarborough took the media to task Monday morning for covering themselves Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner when the real story was happening 40 miles down the road.
He was talking about race riots in Baltimore surrounding the death of 25-year-old African American Freddie Gray, who within an hour of being taken into police custody on April 12th fell into a coma. He later died.
“Every news organization decided to stay on what is affectionately called the ‘Nerd Prom’ in Washington, D.C.,” Scarborough said, saying media covering the dinner should have cut in to the riots going on surrounding Gray’s death.

Panelist and Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart agreed with Scarborough, noting he saw on Twitter that Baltimore Orioles baseball fans were told they couldn’t leave the stadium during the game because of riots outside.
“I thought it was strange,” he said about no media organizations covering the riots while the dinner was going on.

35 people were arrested, and six people were injured during protests over the weekend. On Friday, the Baltimore police commissioner said Gray wasn’t buckled in the police transport vehicle during his arrest and police officials didn’t give him timely medical care.
