Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot Completes Casting With Nashville Actress

And the lucky person to fill the last spot in Joss Whedon‘s small-screen S.H.I.E.L.D. organization is… Chloe Bennet.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bennet — who as of late has been recurring on ABC’s Nashville — has been cast on ABC’s Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot as Skye, who was initially described as “fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.” THR adds that this S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is also “slightly obsessed with superhero culture.”

Previously booked for the highly buzzy pilot were ER alum Ming-Na (as former soldier Melinda May), Clark Gregg (reprising his Avengers role of Phil Coulson), British beauty Elizabeth Henstridge (as science expert Gemma Simmons), Scotsman Iain De Caestecker (as tech whiz Leo Fitz) and Brett Dalton (as cool-under-fire rising star Agent Grant).

Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon is directing the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot and co-wrote the script with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Filming is expected to begin in early 2013, for the coming pilot season and with its eye on a fall 2013 berth.
