Kate Mara Doesn't Want You to Eat Meat On Mondays and Here's Why

Kate Mara is taking on an issue that she feels strongly about in a new PSA.

The House of Cards actress is teaming up with the Humane Society of the United States and is encouraging Americans to eat less meat.

The PSA starts out with this statistic, "Americans eat more meat per person more than any nation on earth. Each of us eat over 200 lbs of beef, chicken and pork per year, and that doesn’t include fish.”

Mara, 32, then addresses the heath concerns associated with the over consumption of meat and speaks about inhumane conditions for animals.

"If you love animals like me, you can take a stand against factory farming," she says passionately. "When we sit down to eat, we have a choice. By choosing meat-free meals, we’re saying yes to better health, yes to a better environment, and yes to a better treatment of animals."

Mara also credits being meat-free as to how she stays so fit. Have you been inspired to try meatless Mondays after seeing her PSA? Let us know using the hashtag #ETnow.
