Kevin Williamson Project, 'Mob Doctor' Get Fox Series Orders; 'Alcatraz' and 'Finder' Canceled

After picking up a trio of comedy pilots to series on Wednesday, Fox has begun filling in its upcoming drama schedule by picking up a pair of drama projects to series.

The first, tentatively titled "The Following," comes from Kevin Williamson, who wrote the pilot and serves as producer, along with pilot director Marcos Siega.

The one-hour drama, which stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, centers around an ex-FBI agent who leads the search to catch a diabolical serial killer who has created a cult of serial killers.

The project comes from Warner Bros. Television and Outerbanks Entertainment.

Fox has also given a series order to "Mob Doctor." The Sony project stars Jordana Spiro and William Forsythe, and follows a young female thoracic surgeon who's split between two worlds as she juggles her career and her lifelong debt to the South Chicago mob.

The one-hour drama is written by Josh Berman and Robert Wright, who are producing. Michael Dinner, who directed the pilot, is also producing.
