Macy's Customers Cut Up Cards to Protest Trump Ties

A few Macy's customers have found a roundabout way of vetting their dislike of Donald Trump: They plan to cut up their credit cards with the department store to object to its ties to the "Apprentice" boss.

Trump's fixation with President Obama's birthplace is just one of the reasons for an online petition calling on Macy's to cut ties with His Hairness. Protestors will continue their venting by gathering at the Macy's Herald Square store in New York City to chop up their credit cards Tuesday, two days before the retailer's famous Thanksgiving parade.

The protest, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 ET, will be attended by Angelo Carusone, who launched the online petition that has so far amassed more than 650,000 signatures.

According to a news release, "dozens of disappointed Macy's customers" also plan to attend the rally.

Carusone's petition took Macy's to task for selling Trump's fragrance and clothing line, alleging a pattern of  "unpleasant, nasty and inexplicable behavior" by Trump.

In addition to suggesting that Obama might not be a U.S. citizen in the run-up to the election, Trump threw a twit-fit on election night, urging his followers to  "march on Washington and stop stop this travesty."

Macy's has indicated it will stand by Trump.

"Macy's marketing and merchandise offerings are not representative of any political position," a spokesman for the retail giant told TheWrap in a statement last week. "Many of the individuals associated with products sold at Macy's –- or at any retailer, for that matter –- express personal opinions that are not related to the merchandise we sell or to the philosophies of our company. In our merchandise assortment, we strive to meet our customers' expectations for unique and interesting products across a broad array of styles, categories and brands. This allows our customers to choose what they prefer."

The movement to dump Trump picked up a high-profile supporter last week, when Cher tweeted, "I'll NEVER GO TO MACY'S AGAIN ! I didnt know they sold Donald Trump's Line!"

The singer added, "If they don't care that they sell products from a LOUDMOUTH RACIST CRETIN, WHO'D LIE LIKE 'HIS RUG' TO GET SOME CHEAP PRESS ! I CANT BELIEVE MACY'S THINKS HE'S THE RIGHT 'MAN' 2 REPRESENT THEIR NAME!"

She threw in a "flaming asshole" for good measure.
